At Siren we embed small electronics into yarn to make machine-washable mass-produced fabric. Our first product are Siren Socks, temperature-sensing smart socks, which help people with diabetes and neuropathy avoid foot ulcers and amputations. Due to nerve damage, a small injury can go unnoticed, become an ulcer, gangrene and ultimately an amputation. Over 150,000 legs are lost to diabetes each year in the US alone, costing the US healthcare system over $80bn/year. Peer reviewed real-world evidence shows that Siren Socks reduce the risk of diabetic foot ulcers by 83%, and the risk of amputations by 68%, leading to over $10,000 of avoided cost per patient per year.
