Dr. Valadez currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the Memorial Hermann Health Plan.
He was formerly the ChiefMedical Officer for FirstCare Plans and after the acquisition of FirstCareHealth Plans by the Scott and White Health Plan, became the interim ChiefMedical Officer for both health plans. In his new role, he led the integration efforts for medical management between the two health plans, the Baylor Scott and White Health system, and the accountable care organization, Baylor Scott and White Quality Alliance. During the integration, Dr. Valadez led one of the largest provider owned health plans in the state of Texas, with over 350,000members.
In the past, Dr. Valadez served as the dedicated medical director with Aetna to Costco Wholesale, aFortune 25 company, and he served as an Assistant Commissioner in the TexasDepartment of State Health Services, leading various public health programs serving the residents of Texas. With over 20 years of health care and public health experience leading public and private organizations, Dr. Valadez is a collaborative leader and forms highly effective teams to drive positive health outcomes for members, patients and communities.
Dr. Valadez graduated from medical school with honors from the University of Texas Medical Branch and completed his residency in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’sHospital, a major teaching hospital of the Harvard Medical School. While inBoston, he completed a master’s degree in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
